What is FranScan?

FranScan utilizes a combination of Phased Array Ultrasonics (PAUT) and Short Range Guided Wave (SRUT) to quantify material loss. 

Originally developed for use on Annular plate testing on above ground storage storage tanks, this technology can be deployed where an enhanced SRUT inspection may be required such as:

  • Testing of Concrete Coated Interfaces
  • Corrosion under pipe supports (CUPS)
  • Scan under Vessel Saddles
  • Wall thickness under Scab corrosion 

Eliminate Dead Zones 

Conventional on-stream annular ring inspections deploy SRUT only. FranScan's combination of SRUT and PAUT eliminates the SRUT dead zone, allowing XSI to quantify material loss to within 1mm of accuracy from the outside of the tank. With our technology customers can effectively size pitting and corrosion under the fillet weld and up to 100mm inside the storage tank with full discrimination between product and soil side corrosion. 

SRUT 

FranScan uses a combination of SRUT and PAUT. SRUT is used for its focusing capabilities and to obtain the depth required for a thorough inspection of the annular Ring. Limitations to SRUT for annular ring inspection include:

  • Top of Bottom Side Differentiation
  • Must have 1.5" spacing for Probe Placement
  • Its a screening technique - does not quantify material loss
